How to Pick Out a Plus Size Halloween Costume

Ah Halloween – a holiday filled with tricks, treats & the usual dread of picking out your costume as a woman over a size 12. I, too, get sweaty palms thinking about my years of trying on the limited in-store selection of plus size costumes offered and leaving with one too many that just didn’t fit quite right.
But, lucky for us all, online shopping has made the quest for your perfect plus size Halloween costume so. much. easier. If you’ve never bought a costume online, I’ve gathered a few of my favorite tips to help you have the perfect Halloween! Let’s get started.

Consider the weather & occasion: Will you be spending Halloween trick-or-treating outside with your kids, or at a party indoors with other adults? Does your town typically get cold during the end of October, or stay nice & warm (lucky you!)? Keep these things in mind when selecting a costume (and your undergarments!).

Read the size chart: If size charts were not important enough when shopping online already, they are essential to finding a good fitting costume. Because a lot of plus size costumes have more limited sizing options, making sure your measurements fit into the size you select will help eliminate returns.

Pay attention to the costume’s materials: When selecting your costume, make sure to check out what it’s made of! If you want stretch vs. wanting structure, make sure the materials reflect that.

Supplement with the proper accessories & shoes: There is nothing worse than putting on your Halloween costume & no one realizing what you are. Make sure to read the product descriptions to see what pieces come with your costume, and supplement accordingly. Don’t forget the shoes!

Be confident!: This is (most likely) the only day out of the year you can dress up as anyone or anything in the world – embrace that! Find a costume that makes you happy and inspires you to saunter into that Halloween party (or around the neighborhood block) with pride! You will rock it.
