Dr. Martens’ AW13 campaign celebrates these free-thinking individuals; from the first timers to those who have been with the brand forever. These are authentic characters that stand for something. Featuring a diverse cast of thirteen, the campaign represents people of different ages, backgrounds, occupations and personalities. They all have one thing in common – they wear Dr. Martens boots and shoes with pride and passion – an empowering mark of something worth standing for.
This ethos should resonate with the FashionBeans reader; we strive to develop a completely individual personal style and put our own unique stamp on every outfit we create, utilising pieces that fully embody our character, personality and way of life. It’s not the clothes you wear – it’s how you wear them and what they represent to YOU.
With this in mind, today we bring you the Dr. Martens autumn/winter 2013 campaign and pick out the key pieces from the new collection.
Dr. Martens AW13: WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?
Shot by James Pearson Howes, the people within the campaign vary greatly and include up-and-coming band The Minx, rapper Rude Kid, hair stylist Saph and artist Wildcat Will, to name but a few.
James captures each individual within their natural environment and habitat, using strong reportage style photography to give the campaign a down to earth and extremely personal feel.
This sense of realism is emphasised further by each character also providing personal imagery to use within the campaign – be it a picture of them wearing Doc’s for the first time, or an album or book that means something to them:

Interviews with these individuals form the basis of accompanying campaign films, where the characters state what they stand for. Guy, a make-up artist who dresses in drag and considers himself as a bit of a chameleon, stands for “keeping people guessing”. William Blanchard, otherwise known as the aforementioned Wildcat Will, an ex-drummer turned artist stands for “rising against conformity”.
Manchester band The Minx stand for “the youth, because they shape the future”. The band’s track Lose My Head, is actually used as the backdrop to their personal film, but has also been remixed for the #STANDFORSOMETHING campaign, to feature on all of the character films in very different ways:

The Casual Collection
Dr. Martens’ ‘Casual’ collection offers a variety of styles for both men and women, which vary from understated to fashion forward. All of these models offer a stylistic bridge between modern, urban streetwear and the brand’s famous Originals profiles, as well as providing the level of comfort that Dr. Martens is renowned for – the perfect blend of fashion and function.
A highlight from the current casual collection is the ‘Fusion Boot’. Blending the classic Dr. Martens boot with a basketball trainer silhouette, it is the perfect weekend style – rugged, durable and rebellious, with an underlying sports luxe feel.
Constructed in smooth black premium leather with a thick air-cushioned sole unit and contoured footbed, these boots are designed to keep you comfortable and on trend all day long. Also available in a shoe silhouette:

Another stand out piece comes from the ‘Eclectic’ range, which mixes contemporary design with innovative materials and detailing, alongside the brand’s renowned durability. The ‘Eduardo Alfie Lace Boot’ is a superb smart-casual style that is constructed in a premium blend of water-resistant hi suede and waxy canvas – an intriguing and edgy combination which plays on the tactile nature of the autumn/winter season.
Perfect for textured, heritage-inspired looks, it comes in black or brown two-tone colour ways, as well as a refined solid grey felt version:

The Rugged Collection
Dr. Martens have introduced a vintage-inspired ‘Rugged’ collection for the autumn/winter 2013 season. With workerwear currently trending and the industry moving in a more rugged and masculine direction, these new silhouettes couldn’t have come at a better time.
The ‘Ferdinand Buckle Boot’ is one of the highlights of the entire AW13 offering. Completely unique and unlike anything else we have seen on the market, it is inspired by traditional Cavalry boots, which emphasises their underlying military influence and gives the style a true sense of authenticity.
Fully leather lined, the Ferdinand comes with a premium leather welt and a two-buckle strap that cannot fail to get you noticed. The combination of tan leather and a new khaki wax canvas supplied especially by The British Millerain Co. Ltd helps create a strong look that would be perfect for incorporating into any heritage or military-inspired aesthetic this season:

The Crafted Collection: Made In England
The Dr. Martens ‘Crafted’ collection prides itself on using the very finest materials and long-established manufacturing techniques. Within the latest range, the brand have continued their partnerships with elite and historical suppliers like Harris Tweed and Stephen Walters and Sons, one of the finest silk manufacturers in the UK. All the products within the Crafted range are produced right here in England; made at the Dr. Martens factory in Wollaston, Northamptonshire.
This decorated heritage is used in combination with new ‘Anilmorbido’ leather within the ‘Calder Wingcap Brogued Boot’. The mix of a beautiful on trend paisley print silk upper with an almost metallic effect leather toe cap is undeniably striking and will make an effortless statement this season.
The Calder boot also comes in a Harris Tweed variation, again juxtaposing the rustic simplicity of this traditional cloth with a more contemporary material:

Mining the rich heritage Dr. Martens enjoys with animal prints and textures, ‘Maracaibo’ is a new faux croc leather that carries a deep, almost 3D finish – which works potently with traditional colours such as oxblood and black.
The ‘Anthony Brogue Boot’ is a refined style that utilises this two-tone palette to full effect. Featuring a rich oxblood textured upper with a contrasting black toe cap, it will bring a tactile element and sense of sophistication to any ensemble:

The Refined Collection
The ‘Refined’ collection from Dr. Martens offers premium materials and fashion forward styling.
For men, the ‘Core’ range includes classic brogue shoe and boot silhouettes, which would slot seamlessly in to any modern capsule wardrobe. Coming in subtle, tonal colour ways and constructed from a smooth leather/hi suede combination, they ooze quality and craftsmanship.
Both styles feature an understated plain welt and matching outsole, whilst the contrast beige laces add a nice touch of detail (with an alternative tonal lace also included for versatility). The seasonal options of cherry red and dark blue are both rich and completely on trend, offering a welcome alternative to your traditional tan brogues:
