PXL Autumn/Winter 2013
PXL Clothing is a streetwear brand founded by Dacre Bracey – a well respected name in both the music and design industry.
The artist first rose to prominence in the late 1990s as his designs were used to promote some of the biggest nightclubs in the world, namely La Cosa Nostra and Sun City.
This work led to him collaborating with some of the greatest musicians of our time, with Bracey designing art for the likes of 50 Cent, Beyoncé and Pharrell. His success also steered him towards working for clothing label Artful Dodger (Scott Langton and Jay Z’s label), where he helped develop their Pop-Up Showroom.
This introduction to the fashion industry pushed Bracey towards the world of street style, and there began PXL Clothing. The brand’s primary inspiration comes from the digital aesthetic that now surrounds and even dictates our everyday lives. The label claim to design clothes for the ‘nerds’, as well as geeks, bloggers and generally anyone who uses any form of social media – thereby encompassing the majority of the world’s population.
However, unlike most modern technology, the new AW13 PXL collection has all been designed in-house and produced in the UK or Portugal, providing both a high quality and more ethical product.
The collection itself follows a monochrome theme, using prints and pixel designs to create differentiation between styles. The repeated badge sewn onto the chest emulates a USA flag, although the brand’s pixel logo has been substituted in for the stars and stripes. Other features further emphasise an underlying American influence; the varsity jacket, selection of snapbacks and baseball-inspired vests all spawn from typical US styles.
Nevertheless, the repeated 0207 – London dialling code – that can be seen splashed across some of the garments has been incorporated to highlight the British context of the label.
PXL is now stocked in Selfridges stores, PXL’s online store and many other UK outlets.
